Dennis Burkley Dead: 'King Of The Hill' Actor Dies At 67

'King Of The Hill' Actor Dies At 67

Dennis Burkley, who voiced Principal Carl Moss on "King of the Hill," died on July 14. He was 67.

His agent confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that Burkley died at home in his sleep.

"He had been battling health problems for some time," reports the site, according to Burkley's son, Shawn.

The actor, identified on IMDb as "A 300-pound character actor who usually wears a beard and speaks with a southern accent," is also known for his roles in "The Doors," "Mark," "Tin Cup" and "No Way Out." He's been acting in cinema and on television since the 1970s. He'd also been teaching acting these past few years, while he was on "King of the Hill" and "My Name Is Earl."

According to his website, Burkley grew up in a small town outside Dallas and earned his MFA in theater from Texas Christian University. In his first film he played alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger, then an unknown actor as well.

CORRECTION: A former version of this article stated Burkley was born in a small town outside of Dallas, Texas. He was in fact born in Van Nuys, Calif. and raised outside of Dallas. The text has been amended to reflect that.
