'Catfish: The TV Show': After Eight Years, Could Her Online Love Possibly Be For Real? (VIDEO)

'Catfish: The TV Show': Meeting After Eight, Long Years

It was one of the longest online relationships seen yet on "Catfish: The TV Show." Lauren had been "dating" a guy named Derek off and on for eight years. There had been other relationships -- Lauren even had a son by another man -- but she always came back to Derek. But she never knew if he was for real or not. After all that time, the two had gotten very close, but still Derek would never video chat with her, saying he couldn't get a webcam.

She offered to come visit him and Derek turned her down. After some investigating, his phone number turned out to be registered to a much older man, raising another red flag. So Nev set up a meet. And after eight years, Lauren had to face the reality that the man she'd fallen for could be someone else entirely.

But she needn't have worried. Even though Lauren couldn't turn around when Derek first opened the door, he was exactly as advertised. When she finally did, the couple shared a warm embrace. Fans of "Catfish" were excited to see a happy ending as opposed to the show's usual deceptions and tragedies. MTV called it an emotional, modern-day fairy tale.

“Are you real?” Lauren asked Derek.

His reply only the words, "I’m real!”

Derek said that he'd just been "too nervous" to meet the love of his life. As for that phone number registration, he said he had no idea why it was registered that way. Nevertheless, it was as happy an ending as "Catfish" has ever had. Lauren is now planning to move from Texas to Maryland with her son to start her new life with Derek. The couple plans to be engaged within the year.
