The Colbert Report

Stephen Colbert shared his insights on Elisabeth Hasselbeck's move on Tuesday.

"Tip of the hat to Fox News for bringing in some fresh blood and not just for Rupert Murdoch's wine cellar," the host joked. "Yes, Elisabeth Hasselbeck from 'The View' will be replacing Gretchen Carlson on "Fox and Friends," or as the brown-haired guy who's not Steve Doocy puts it, 'Are you my new mommy?'"

Hasselbeck left "The View" last Wednesday after announcing her new role on Fox News, which will begin this fall. Her departure came months after it was initially reported that she was getting fired from the show because her political views clashed with the audience. Meanwhile, Carlson will be moving to one of the daytime hours vacated by Megyn Kelly, who will be moving to primetime when she returns from maternity leave. Observers wondered whether Kelly would bump Greta Van Susteren — rumors that Van Susteren responded to on her blog.

Colbert had his own take on the scheduling shake-up on Fox News, noting that while the network's hosts may be different, their hairstyles will still be pretty similar.
