Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' 'Same Love' Nabs MTV VMA Nomination

MTV's Video Music Award (VMA) nominations were announced July 17, and while the videos for Justin Timberlake's "Mirrors" and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' "Thrift Store" have the most nominations, each with six, it is the latter artists' other video nomination that should be noted today.

Under the category "Best Video With a Social Message," Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' "Same Love" featuring Mary Lambert has been nominated along with videos from Beyonce, Kelly Clarkson and others. The song gained speed (and recently went platinum) on the music charts after the Supreme Court overturned both the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) and Prop 8, so hopefully the music duo will take home a Moonman statue for their timely gay marriage anthem.

Congrats, guys!

The VMAs will air on MTV August 25, for a complete list of nominees, click here.
