Rita Marley's Regal Head Wraps (PHOTOS)

PHOTOS: Rita Marley's Regal Head Wraps

Rita Marley may live in the shadow of her late husband Bob Marley's musical legacy, but she's no shrinking violet. Born Alpharita Constantia Anderson on July 25, 1946, in Santiago de Cuba, Cuba, her life changed when she met Bob. With Marley as the mentor of her female group called the I Threes, it wasn't long before the two fell in love.

Whether Rita was singing sweet melodies, doting over her six children or standing strong in the midst of her husband's infidelities, she always kept her head high. And she did so while wearing beautiful head wraps. The significance of Rita's cover-ups may lie in Rastafarian spiritual beliefs, or it could just be a simple way to hold her dreadlocks up. But whatever the reason, we can't help but admire her colorful crown.

So in celebration of Rita Marley's 67th birthday today, we've put together a photo retrospective of the "Queen of Reggae" and her regal head wraps.
