Antonio Lewis Charged In Murder Of 5-Year-Old Boy And His Mother From Earlier This Summer

Man Charged In Murder Of Woman And Her 5-Year-Old Son

An 18-year-old Chicago man has been charged in the June double-murder of a 5-year-old boy and his mother in the city's Back of the Yards neighborhood.

Lewis was not expected to appear in bond court as he remains hospitalized for critical injuries he sustained in a separate shooting less than 24 hours after the double murder.

Records indicate Lewis lives just a block away from the home where he shot Chavonne Brown, 31, and her son Sterling Sims in their bedrooms on June 28. Lewis allegedly came to the home in the 5300 block of South Winchester Avenue just after 2:30 in the morning and shot the mother and son for unknown reasons.

Police say Lewis also tried to shoot Brown's 11-year-old son who was home at the time, but Lewis' gun jammed. The 11-year-old, who witnessed the shootings, called police and was still in the home with the bodies of his mother and little brother when police arrived.

Family described Brown as a dedicated mother who put her children first. Sterling, who had just graduated preschool, was described by his godfather as "the best little boy," the Tribune reports.
