Darren Criss stopped by "Conan" Thursday night, and remembered his late friend and "Glee" co-star, Cory Monteith. The 31-year-old star died last month from a fatal combination of alcohol and heroin.

"Glee" will pay tribute to Monteith in the third episode of the upcoming season with an episode that deals directly with drug abuse and addiction. Series creator Ryan Murphy and the cast will present PSAs to air alongside the episode.

“We’re picking up the pieces now," Criss told Conan O'Brien. "Cory ... was a really funny guy, had a great sense of humor and he loved life, and he always took care of his friends and wanted his friends to be happy, so it’s only right that we, you know, try to start and smile again, try and laugh again. It’s something that he would’ve wanted.”

"Glee" might also be getting a shortened run, though it isn't clear if this is related to Monteith's death. Fox Entertainment President Kevin Reilly announced that the plan for now is to end the series after its sixth season. The network has already renewed the show through next year's sixth season. But Ryan Murphy has said in the past he was planning for an eight-year run.

Season 5 of "Glee" kicks off on September 26, 2013 with a two-part "Beatles"-themed story, followed by the tribute to Monteith's Finn Hudson in the third episode. "Conan" airs weeknights at 11 p.m. ET on TBS.
