Did Nixon 'Drunk Dial' H.R. Haldeman? CNN Documentary Features Revealing Audio Footage

I Love You, Man! Did Nixon 'Drunk Dial'??

Do United States presidents ever drunk dial people? You decide.

The CNN documentary "Our Nixon" features a recording of former President Richard Nixon calling White House Chief of Staff H.R. Haldeman. The call took place after Nixon's announcement that Haldeman would be resigning in light of the Watergate scandal. Haldeman ultimately spent 18 months in prison.

In the conversation, Nixon swears to "never, never, never, never" discuss "this son of a bitching Watergate thing again."

He also professes to Haldeman, "You're a strong man, goddamnit, and I love you." Haldeman awkwardly chuckles in response.

Nixon then asks Haldeman to make some calls gauging reactions to the speech, but Haldeman puts that idea to rest, gently explaining, "I'm kind of in an odd spot to do that."

Before hanging up, Nixon again declares, "I love you, as you know... like my brother," to which Haldeman responds, "Okay."

Some viewers speculated that Nixon may have been drunk in the conversation, with Washington Post Magazine editor Joe Heim tweeting:
