Peter Capaldi Was On 'Doctor Who' In 2008 (VIDEO)

The New Doctor Isn't All That New To 'Doctor Who'

Peter Capaldi was announced as the new Doctor of "Doctor Who" on Sunday, Aug. 4, but this isn't his first foray into the world of TARDIS travels.

In 2008, Capaldi appeared in an episode of "Doctor Who," titled "The Fires of Pompeii," as Caecilius.

Former "Doctor Who" star Karen Gillan noted his appearance via Twitter.

In the scenes below, watch Capaldi meet the then-Doctor (David Tennant) and Donna Noble (Catherine Tate).

In the upcoming eighth season of "Doctor Who," Capaldi will play the Twelfth Doctor, replacing Matt Smith. “Being asked to play the Doctor is an amazing privilege. Like the Doctor himself I find myself in a state of utter terror and delight," Capaldi said.

Capaldi's other credits include "In The Loop," "The Thick of It" and "The Hour." He also appeared on "Torchwood" in 2009 as John Frobisher.

"Doctor Who" 50th anniversary special airs Saturday, Nov. 23 on BBC America.
