Durex's "Protect Yourself" ad was recently named Spec Ad of the Year by the Association of Independent Commercial Producers. And after watching all of the video's glorious 1:05, it's not that hard to discern why.
As the pathos-laden strains of Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata" play in the background, the video chronicles fathers in the daily travails of child-rearing: stepping on toys, having hot coffee spilled in your crotch. You know, the usual.
"Leave it to a condom company to show you what could happen if you don't use their products," MSN observes. "This dramatically hilarious (or hilariously dramatic) ad for Durex points out the aspects of having children that no one ever posts on Facebook."
Durex is known for its clever commercials and often makes advertising blogs' lists for top campaigns. In September, a video that reportedly showed airline passengers in Poland being "spontaneously" taught how to use a condom by their flight attendant went similarly viral for the brand.
