Nick Porto And Kevin Atkins, Alleged NYC Anti-Gay Hate Crime Victims, Speak Out (VIDEO)

Gay Couple Allegedly Targeted In NYC Hate Crime Speak Out

Two New York City-based gay men who were allegedly attacked outside of Madison Square Garden are speaking out about their experiences.

Nick Porto, 27, and 22-year-old Kevin Atkins recalled being knocked to the ground by four men emerging from Madison Square Garden following a Knicks playoff game against the Indiana Pacers in May as part of a New York Times "Op-Doc." The alleged culprits shouted anti-gay slurs at the pair in broad daylight, according to the original report.

"We were walking down the street, enjoying the day, holding hands," Porto said. "From behind us, we hear somebody calling us faggots...I did feel like I could approach these guys and laugh about it."

He then noted, "All I can really recall is having this guy punch me in the face, sends my glasses flying...that's when I looked around and realized I was surrounded by people."

Added Atkins, "My parents didn't know I was in a relationship until the incident. So that was a little tough."

Both Porto and Atkins are identified in the video as "Project Runway" crew members. As the couple points out, the investigation into their alleged attack is still pending.
