Chase Utley, Dioner Navarro Collide At Plate: Cubs Catcher Carted Off Field (VIDEO)

Cubs Catcher Carted Off Field After Collision

The Phillies' front office may have held its breath on Wednesday night when All-Star Chase Utley tried to score from second base on a single in the seventh inning with Cubs catcher Dioner Navarro blocking the plate.

Utley, who reportedly agreed to a two-year deal worth around $27 million to stay in Philadelphia, collided with Navarro but the 29-year-old catcher managed to hold on to the ball for the out.

Navarro had to be carted off the field with an ankle injury, but x-rays were negative.

"It was one heck of a play by Navarro to hold on to the ball and block the plate at the same time," Cubs manager Dale Sveum said after their 5-2 win, per MLB.com. "A lot of catchers don't have the guts to do that sometimes."
