Somehow even in 2013, baseball still finds ways to surprise us.
On Wednesday night, the Dodgers walloped the Cardinals 13-4. In the ninth inning, St. Louis manager Mike Matheny sent back-up catcher Rob Johnson to the mound to pitch. Johnson had only pitched one other time in his six-year-career, as a member of the Mets last season.
The batter Johnson faced was relief pitcher Paco Rodriguez -- himself partaking in his first ever plate appearance.
Yup. That's a catcher pitching to a pitcher batting.
