Tyler Perry has done it again! After setting an OWN network record earlier this year with the premiere of his original series, “The Haves and the Have Nots,” the media mogul recently set another milestone with the channel.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the hour long drama’s July 30 episode netted a total of 2 million viewers, bringing the show’s season average viewership to 1.7 million. The show’s exceptional ratings adds to the its success. It debuted in March drawing 1.77 million viewers during its 9pm airing followed by an increase of 1.8 million viewers, beating out La Toya Jackson’s “Life With La Toya,” which previously held the network’s highest show debut with 1.8 million viewers.

Perry credited his experience growing up in New Orleans as inspiration for creating and producing OWN’s highest rated series.

"Everything that I write about, I write from my own experiences," Perry admitted earlier this year during an episode of Oprah Winfrey’s “Next Chapter.”

"I was young once. I've seen all of this…My mother worked at a Jewish Community Center and she took care of all of these Jewish children that were very young and most of them were pretty rich," he continued. "She would take care of them and go to work early in the morning, make sure they had hot food, and then she would go in the evenings to their house… And we had cereal on the table. The two worlds were so different."

“The Haves and the Have Nots,” is one of two shows that are part of Perry’s exclusive deal with Winfrey’s cable network.
