A Twitter Guide To Airports

Twitter has become a great way for airports to communicate with passengers, and vice versa. Through the microblogging platform, airports are able to quickly share time-sensitive information with travelers, who in turn can offer feedback to the airports they frequent.

Some airports, for instance, now use Twitter to tell their followers if there are any flight delays or other travel-related problems.

"The immediacy of Twitter makes it an effective communication tool for an airport," wrote Agnes Huff in a March post for AviationPros.com. "Airports that use Twitter allow for it to become the 'hub' of customer interaction. At a time when much is automated, airports using Twitter are able to interact with travelers to reinforce that their comments and concerns are being heard. In essence, it humanizes the traveling experience."

Though many airports have jumped aboard the Twitter bandwagon, some have been far more effective at using social media than others.

A new infographic by NeoMam Studios commissioned by Cheapflights.com.au shows how airports around the world stack up through the lens of the Twittersphere.
