Prince Fielder, Detroit Tigers Star, Reportedly Files For Divorce From Wife Of 8 Years

As his numbers continue to nose-dive across the board this season, it's no secret that Detroit Tigers star Prince Fielder has been struggling on the baseball field. But has the 29-year-old slugger been suffering in his personal life as well?

It has been revealed this week that the first baseman may have filed for divorce from his wife of eight years. CBS Radio's WWJ reports:

Court records show that Fielder filed a dissolution-of-marriage case on May 28, asking a judge to end his marriage to Chanel Fielder.

The two were married in 2005 during the Triple-A All-Star break while Fielder was playing for the Nashville Sounds. They have two young sons together.

During an interview with Detroit Sports 105.1 FM on Wednesday, the Tigers' Torii Hunter hinted that his teammate's performance may be taking a hit from something happening off the field.

"There's always something going on in somebody's life. He, just like everybody else, has something going on. He's fighting through it and he's getting it done. You guys don't need to know what it is unless he wants to tell you. That's it. That's all that was said. It's the truth," Hunter said, according to the Guardian.

As USA Today notes, Fielder quickly dismissed his teammate's comments, insisting: "I'm gonna turn the story off. It's fine. Everything's fine."

Fielder’s batting average at the end of last year was .313. This season, Fielder, who signed a nine-year, $214 million contract with the Tigers in January 2012, is currently hitting .245.
