'Burn Notice': Michael Must Kill A Friend To Maintain His Connection

Is Michael in too deep on this latest mission? In the latest episode of "Burn Notice," he carried out a kill order to impress James. But the target was Roger Steele, a former acquaintance and friend to Michael. Would he really go this far to maintain his position close to James?

Making matters worse, Michael was talking to Roger at the time it all went down. He was quiet for a moment, leading Roger to ask if he was still there. Probably deep in thought, weighing his options, Michael's last words to his friend were, "I’m still here, Roger. And I’m sorry.”

Then he took the shot. Ryan Sandoval, writing for TV.com, was impressed with a show seven years in still offering up such a surprising moment. "When Michael went through with Steele’s murder, uttering a distant ‘...I’m sorry’ after his old acquaintance had offered him his favorite yogurt (blueberry) and $10,000 out of concern, the decision felt both characteristic and jarring," he wrote.

But Buddy TV's Megan Cole wonders about the long-term affects of Michael's decision. "How will Michael deal with his guilt over killing his friend?" she asked. "And while Michael may eventually take down James' organization, will there be anything left for him when the mission is over? How can Michael go back to his old life after everything that has happened?”

The march to the series finale continues on "Burn Notice," Thursdays at 10 p.m. ET on USA.
