Should Bob Filner Resign? 81 Percent Of San Diego Says Yes, According To New Poll

Hours after a petition to recall San Diego Mayor Bob Filner (D) got underway, a new poll revealed that an overwhelming majority of residents want to see him resign.

A poll released by 10News/U-T San Diego on Sunday found that 81 percent said yes to a Filner resignation, while 14 percent said no. Conducted by SurveyUSA, the poll reached 600 people, with a margin of error of 2.5 to 4.3 percent.

As of Thursday, 16 women had come forward accusing Filner of sexual harassment. The latest woman to speak out was Peggy Shannon, a 67-year-old volunteer city worker who claimed Thursday that he repeatedly asked her to rub his hands, go out on dates and made sexually-charged comments.

Filner announced July 26 that he was choosing not to resign, opting instead for two weeks of intensive therapy. He completed the counseling one week early.

Several political voices have already called for Filner's resignation, headed by the Democratic Party of San Diego.
