Kim Catullo Says Wife, NYC Mayoral Candidate Christine Quinn, Received Anti-Gay Threats

New York City mayoral candidate Christine Quinn has received threats for being gay, her wife Kim Catullo told The New York Daily News.

“Chris has gotten threats about being gay," the media-shy Catullo--who married Quinn last year after same-sex marriage was legalized in New York--told the paper. "It’s hard to accept and we live in a place that is the most tolerant.”

“I worry about everything, if she is getting enough rest, is she safe,” she added.

A rash of anti-gay attacks in New York City was also of concern for Catullo, who works at Midtown law firm. One such attack took place on the couple's old block in Chelsea.

“When you have strides like marriage equality, you tend to think (prejudice) has passed, then things like that happen, and it wakes you up again,” she said.

By the end of May this year, there were 24 anti-gay attacks across New York City, police told NBC New York, up from 14 during the same period last year.

Quinn, who if elected would become the city's first openly gay mayor, is in a virtual tie with Bill de Blasio for the Democratic nomination for mayor.
