Infinite Sand Sculpture Brings Mesmerizing Optical Illusions To The Beach

LOOK: This Sand Sculpture Never Ever Ends

Are you bored of the prosaic sand castles children construct on the beach? Are uniformly crafted barbicans and moats just not cutting it for you? Then you might be a fan of Clara Jara's meta-sand sculptures.

As part of the Hampton Beach Master Sand Sculpting Competition in New Hampshire earlier this summer, Jara sculpted a large recursive creation that's sure to picque the interest of even the snobbiest of sand castle critics. The infinite objet d'sand -- an impressive example of the Droste Effect -- won the artist first place at the contest, combining the tranquility of Rodin's "The Thinker" with the head-scratching optical illusions of M.C. Escher.
