Chiara De Blasio Says Dad, Mayoral Candidate Bill De Blasio, Is Not 'Some Boring White Guy' (VIDEO)

WATCH: De Blasio Isn't 'Some Boring White Guy'

According to Bill de Blasio's daughter, just because her dad is white, that doesn't mean he's boring.

Eighteen-year-old Chiara de Blasio--whose mother, Chirlane McCray, is black--gave a speech at a fundraiser for her father Sunday in which she explained why he should be the next mayor of New York City.

"I’m so happy that I get to work with my dad and the rest of my family on this campaign,” she can be seen saying in a video released by the de Blasio campaign. “It’d be one thing if I just thought he was just like some boring white guy who didn’t know what he was talking about. But you know, he truly-- he cares about everybody in this city, every different type of person. You know, rich poor, black white, blue, whatever."

Mr. de Blasio, now one of the frontrunners for the Democratic nomination for mayor, has put his multiracial family at front and center of his campaign over the past few weeks. A recent campaign ad featured his son, Dante.

Chiara was speaking Sunday at Susan Sarandon's SPiN Galactic New York, a bourgey ping-pong club in the Manhattan. Sarandon, who was in attendance, also expressed her support for de Blasio.

"As a woman, initially I was interested in Quinn,” she said. “It became clear to me that, you know as a woman, you can’t just vote your vagina. As a mother, I’m more interested in other things.”
