Lavante Jackson, Tyvion Jackson Shooter, Held On $900,000 Bail In 7-Year-Old's Shooting

Teen Charged With Shooting 7-Year-Old Held On $900K Bond

Updated story

A judge has ordered a 15-year-old Chicago boy on $900,000 bond in the shooting 7-year-old Tyvion Jackson in the city's Garfield Park neighborhood this weekend.

The Sun-Times reports police had an existing warrant out for the alleged shooter's arrest in relation to a drug charge. After breaking his 2 p.m. curfew, the GPS tracker on Lavante Jackson’s ankle bracelet helped authorities pinpoint the teen "seconds" before he allegedly fired the bullets that hit the small boy.

Tyvion's mother, Tasha McDuffie, told the Tribune, "He's just traumatized, and he's afraid to come outside." McDuffie told the Sun-Times the little boy "doesn't really understand why he got shot."

Police had few details on the shooting Tuesday morning. The Sun-Times says two groups of young men -- some standing on the corner and others in a parked car -- began arguing and shots were fired when the conflict grew heated.

Jackson is the tenth child age 7 or younger to be shot in Chicago in less than two months, according to a Tribune analysis.
