Wedding Ring Destroyed With Pliers After Referee Orders Soccer Player To Remove It (VIDEO)

Referee Orders Soccer Player ToWedding Ring

Something tells us the referee at this soccer game in Venezuela is not a romantic.

In a video posted to YouTube on Wednesday, the referee orders midfielder Rolando Escobar to remove his wedding band with a pair of pliers after attempts to slide it off his finger proved futile.

Wearing jewelry is against the rules in many contact sports because it can be dangerous and cause injuries. But wedding rings can be particularly difficult to take off, especially those that have stayed on the same finger for years.

Referees typically allow players to cover the ring with tape instead, according to Yahoo! Sport UK & Ireland. But it looks like this one was a real stickler!

We can't help but wonder how Escobar's wife feels about this...

Below, Redditors share the stories behind their engagement rings.
