With one of Barcelona's past heroes having scored the first goal of the match and one of the club's all-time great sidelined with a thigh injury it was up to the young man tipped to be the Catalans' next superstar to come through.
With Barcelona trailing Atletico Madrid, 1-0, deep into the second half of the first leg of a Spanish Super Cup clash on Wednesday night at the Vicente Calderon, the 21-year-old Brazilian scored the equalizer. Neymar, who arrived at Barcelona by way of a $74 million transfer during the offseason, arrived at the right end of a cross from Dani Alves in the 66th minute to head home his first official goal for the club.
“I'm thrilled to have scored my first goal," he told AS, via Goal.com. “I’m happy because I came on and was able to help the team in a difficult situation."
