Bradley Cooper has joined the cast of Marvel's "Guardians of the Galaxy," the studio announced on Friday. Cooper will voice Rocket Raccoon in the science-fiction adventure, an animated raccoon who wields a giant machine gun. Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, John C. Reilly, Glenn Close, Dave Bautista and Benicio Del Toro all star in the film, which is shooting now for release on Aug. 1, 2014. Cooper's involvement in "Guardians of the Galaxy" was first reported by the website Latino Review on Aug. 22.

From the Marvel press release announcing Cooper's Rocket Raccoon role:

In the far reaches of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, an unlikely cast of characters including Peter Quill, Gamora, Drax, Groot and Rocket Raccoon must join forces to defeat a cosmic force of epic proportions. Directed by James Gunn, the live-action "Guardians of the Galaxy" will take fans to new corners of the Marvel Universe when it hits theaters August 1, 2014.

Unconfirmed as of the moment is Vin Diesel's involvement in "Guardians of the Galaxy." Diesel has all but said he's voicing Groot in the film, an alien tree who is fond of saying, "I am Groot." Marvel, however, has not made public comment on that matter.
