The Time Traveling DeLorean - "Back To The Future"

delorean

TECHNICAL NAME:

Retrofitted by Dr. Emmett Brown, this is the "1.21 jiggawatt," flux capacitor-powered vehicle that propelled Marty McFly back to 1955 at 88 mph, allowing him the chance to save his family from a future of failure and disappointment.

The Millennium Falcon - "Star Wars"

technical names for famous vehicles

TECHNICAL NAME:

Won from Lando Calrissian in a Sabaac card game, this heavily modified Corellian ship was flown by Han Solo and Chewbacca during the battle of Yavin where it saved Luke Skywalker's life, allowing him to blow up the first Death Star. It narrowly escaped the destruction of the second Death Star, while being operated by Calrissian during the battle of Endor. It's a home, a smuggling tool and weapon, but mostly, "she's the fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy."

The U.S.S. Enterprise - "Star Trek"

enterprise

TECHNICAL NAME:

The original Enterprise, helmed by Capt. James T. Kirk. Other iterations of the Enterprise are commissioned after this original is destroyed (self-destructed) during a battle with the Klingons above the planet Genesis. It's armed with phasers and photon torpedoes, and is capable of Warp 9, or roughly 300 billion kilometers in 20 minutes.

The Suped-Up Ghostbuster's Cadillac - "Ghostbusters"

ecto 1

TECHNICAL NAME:

Bought and repaired by founding Ghostbuster Ray Stantz for under $5,000, this fixer-upper transported the proton packs, traps and P.K.E. meters. Though it doesn't play a large role in the everyday busting of ghosts, its look and siren are unmistakable.

The T.A.R.D.I.S. - "Doctor Who"

tardis

TECHNICAL NAME:

The T.A.R.D.I.S. (Time And Relative Dimension In Space) is an odd-looking ship belonging to a humanoid alien, the last of the Time Lords, who goes only by "The Doctor." It can travel anywhere in time and space. The Doctor's craft, which is much larger on the inside than it is on the outside, provides him and his companions with everything they need while out saving the Universe from certain doom. With its "chameleon circuit" left broken after a 1963 London visit, the ship maintains the permanent appearance of a 1960s London police box.

B.A. Baracus' Van - "The A Team"

gmc vandura

TECHNICAL NAME:

The official vehicle of the legendary A-Team, a four-man special forces squad for-hire. Wrongly convicted fugitives from the law, they travel the country in this home-away-from-home using their specialized talents to protect the innocent and fight those who are dumb enough to get in their way. No one drive's this van but B.A. Baracus. So this van pities fools.

Optimus Prime - "Transformers"

optimus prime

TECHNICAL NAME:

Leader of the Autobots, Optimus Prime is his own vehicle. He's able to take the form of nearly any automobile, but his primary form is this powerful and highly prized semi, often heralded as the "mother of all customizable trucks." Prime and his fellow Autobots arrived on Earth from their home planet Cybertron and battle an endless war against the Decepticons, another sect of autonomous robotic organisms who wish to exterminate humanity.

The X-Wing - "Star Wars"

technical names for famous vehicles

TECHNICAL NAME:

The spaceship responsible for destroying the Death Star and the preferred dogfighting craft of the Rebel Alliance. The X-wing was originally designed for use by the Empire, but was quickly adopted by the rebellion when the X-wing engineering team defected to the Rebel Alliance. The Force was indeed with them.

K.I.T.T. - "Knight Rider"

TECHNICAL NAME:

The 1982 Pontiac Trans Am known as KITT was the car of Michael Knight, a special crime-fighting agent of FLAG, the Foundation for Law And Government. Together they roam the countryside protecting those who can't protect themselves. This self-aware computerized vehicle was indeed ahead of its time. It had a video communication display well before Skype, the ability to drive itself way before the Google car, and an incredibly advanced AI system long before IBM's Watson. Also, Watson doesn't have flamethrowers.

The Battlestar Galactica - "Battlestar Galactica" (2003)

technical names for famous vehicles

TECHNICAL NAME:

The Battlestar Galactica is (at least initially) the only surviving military ship after the Cylons, cybernetic beings created by humans, carry out a devastating surprise attack which wipes out nearly all mankind. It's the only military vehicle without an integrated computer network (err, Internet) leaving it unscathed when the Cylons compromise humanity's electronic systems. The Galactica becomes a home, a fortress, and humanity's last chance of survival against their robotic adversary.

Luke's Landspeeder - "Star Wars"

technical names for famous vehicles

TECHNICAL NAME:

This is the everyday cruiser that got Luke around on his desolate Outer Rim planet of Tatooine. Though forced to sell it shortly after his encounter with Obi-Wan Kenobi, Luke's landspeeder was truly more valuable than the measly 2,500 credits he likely got for it. Without that speeder, Luke might never have had the credits to get off "that rock" and go on to play the chief role he did in destroying the Empire. Thank you, landspeeder.

Max's Black Pursuit Special - "Mad Max"

technical names for famous vehicles

TECHNICAL NAME:

After a friend and fellow officer is killed by a roving biker gang, the squad's top officer Max Rockatansky angrily resigns from the job. When the same gang kills his wife and child? Oooh shit. This vehicle is the untested, highly supercharged black Pursuit Special that Max steals from the police garage in order to chase down the gang with absolutely no mercy. And he is mad.
