Monday marked the forty-sixth annual West Indian Day Parade in Brooklyn. The city's largest parade drew thousands of revelers, many wearing colorful costumes, and waving flags to celebrate their Caribbean heritage.

Bill de Blasio, Christine Quinn, Bill Thompson, and Anthony Weiner were among New York City mayoral candidates who marched in the parade, just eight days before the Democratic primary.

Festivities this year carried a muted tone following the tragic death of a one-year-old boy fatally shot Sunday night, just a few blocks away from the parade's start.
