Getting back into the dating game after a divorce can seem daunting, especially if you encounter several men who don't seem to be "the one."
But according to Adelle Waldman, author of "The Love Affairs of Nathaniel P," dating a variety of men can actually teach you a great deal about what you want and need in a relationship. Waldman stopped by HuffPost Live this week to discuss the five types of guys you should meet, but not marry.
The first man Waldman suggests taking for a test drive is "the one who never wanted to commit -- until he met you," a man they compare to famous lothario Russell Brand, who briefly settled down with Katy Perry. Waldman told host Caitlyn Becker that dating a commitment-phobe like this can help you appreciate the men who truly want a serious relationship.
"One of the things we learn is to appreciate the difference between that guy and a guy who really wants to be in a relationship and make it work," she said.
Another man Waldman said is important to meet but not marry is "The funny, charming, sensitive guy who pouts and says 'nothing' when you ask him if something's wrong," because he can teach you the importance of open and honest communication.
"The ability to be honest when something's wrong, when something bothers you -- I think is so important for any relationship," she said.
