The 52-year-old former Colombian national team legend Carlos Valderrama has dyed his hair pink in support of the fight against breast cancer.
“El Pibe,” known for his iconic hair and his unbelievable passing, was in the public on eye on Thursday in an event in Barranquilla, Colombia.
According to reports by Colombian publication El Tiempo, he was happy to show off his hair and pose for pictures with fans.
“I showed my picture to my family members and they are going crazy. They don’t believe me. They think I’m just making it up,” Valderrama stated.
The legendary soccer player never thought twice about dying his hair because “Its for a good cause” and because some of his family members had suffered from breast cancer, reported Futbolred.
“A lot of people have called me to make fun of me,” stated a laughing Valderrama.
Carlos Valderrama’s career
“El Pibe” started his career in 1981 playing for Union Magdalena in Colombia’s first division. He played until 1984 when he moved to Millonarios of Bogota, where he only played one season.
Valderrama really made a name for himself playing for Deportivo Cali. He played 131 matches and scored 22 goals.
The Colombian playmaker also had stints with Montpellier (Fra), Real Valladolid (Spa), Independiente Medellin (Col), Junior (Col), Mutiny (USA), Fusion (USA) and Rapids (USA).
Valderrama, however, reach legendary status representing Colombia in the international level. He played for the Colombian national team from 1985 to 1998. He earned 111 caps during his tenure as Colombia’s captain. The most any player has worn Colombia’s yellow jersey.
