NASA's Instagram Profile To Share Amazing PHOTOS From Earth & Beyond

LOOK: NASA 'Shares The Universe' With Instagram Launch

From showing us a man on the moon, to giving us a peek into outer reaches of the universe, NASA has produced some of the most iconic images of our time.

And now the space agency is bringing those awe-inspiring photos to Instagram with its new official NASA account.

"Instagram has a passionate following of users who are hungry for new and exciting photos," NASA Press Secretary Lauren Worley said in a written statement. "We believe we have some of the most engaging images on and off the planet -- and we can’t wait to engage with Instagrammers."

Check out NASA's very first post below -- it was dubbed "moon day" to celebrate tonight's launch of the Lunar Atmosphere and Dust Environment Explorer (LADEE), which will explore the moon's dust and atmosphere.

This image taken July 20, 1969 from Apollo 11 shows the Earth rising over the limb of the moon much as the Harvest Moon does from our planetary perspective. Over the stark, scarred surface of the moon, the Earth floats in the void of space, a watery jewel swathed in ribbons of clouds.
