Tom Hiddleston can add another high-ranking director to his résumé. After working with Woody Allen, Joss Whedon and Kenneth Branagh, the actor will replace Benedict Cumberbatch in Guillermo del Toro's haunted-house film "Crimson Peak," according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Cumberbatch exited the thriller last month without giving a reason for doing so, except to clarify that a scheduling conflict was not the cause. Now Hiddleston will follow up "Thor: The Dark World" and next year's "Muppets Most Wanted" with another big-budget project.
"Crimson Peak" co-stars Jessica Chastain, Mia Wasikowska and Charlie Hunnam, the latter of whom you may know as our new Christian Grey. The thriller was also supposed to feature Emma Stone, who dropped out in June due to scheduling conflicts.
The casting switchup gives way to a reunion of sorts for Hiddleston and Wasikowska, who recently starred in the Cannes Film Festival premiere "Only Lovers Left Alive."
"Peak" is slated to begin shooting in January 2014. The movie's plot details remain scant, other than a short description reported by The Wrap: "A young author named Edith Cushing (Wasikowska) discovers that her charming new husband is not who he appears to be."
