Phoenix will cancel their iTunes Festival performance scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 7, following lead singer Thomas Mars falling ill. The band announced the news Friday via Twitter.

Unfortunately Thomas won't be able to sing as he is ill & cannot travel. We are very sorry that our @itunesfestival show on 9/7 is cancelled

Ireland-based indie group Little Green Cars was slated to open for Phoenix. The band members said they were "gutted" by the news of the cancellation.

No specific notice of Mars' condition has been made public. The festival will not replace Phoenix's slot on the lineup, but will instead return Sunday with previously planned performers Bastille and The 1975.
