New York Fashion Week has finally wrapped. After watching dozens of shows and presentations, the editors at HuffPost Style have already decided on which Spring 2014 looks we'd like to purchase as soon as they hit stores. But on the other hand, we've seen some things come down the runway that we can do at home.
Here are seven DIY fashion and beauty ideas that can easily be translated from the runway to the real world. Go grab your comb, makeup brushes and glue gun, ladies!
1. Cuffed-up ponytails at Jason Wu. We discovered another use for our gold and silver bangles thanks to hairstylist Odile Gilbert. She dressed up the low, swinging ponytail hairstyles at Jason Wu's Spring 2014 show with thick gold barrettes, which concealed the elastic holders in a glamorous way. Kérastase Paris Short Mania (a sculpting paste available in October) helped to keep strands smooth and provide a semi-matte finish.
2. Hot rod cat-eye liner at Jeremy Scott. This classic eye makeup look is one we'll never grow tired of seeing. MAC Cosmetics lead makeup artist Kabuki gave it a contemporary spin by applying Phlox Garden Fluidline (a magenta cream shadow available Spring/Summer 2014) with a pointed liner brush to execute the sculpted "wing" on the outer half of the eye. Then he blended Starry Eyed Sparkle Shadow (another upcoming MAC spring product) over the eyelids for a touch of shimmer.
3. Popsicle stick hats at Tibi. Now we can finally put those popsicle stick skills from our elementary school days to use. Even though the hats we glue together won't compare to Tibi designer Amy Smilovic's artistry, we think it's still worth a shot.
4. 3D nail art at Katie Gallagher. Celebrity manicurist Casey Herman created a 3D layered nail art look using imPRESS Press-On Manicure by Broadway Nails in three monochromatic shades of pale pink, black and metallic grey sheen to complement the Gallagher's spring collection. She create the textured V-shape by cutting diagonal shapes from different colored press-on nails and layering them on top.
5. Flower hair pins at Honor. This tousled ponytail gave us a '90s flashback with the flower hair pins delicately placed throughout. To build more volume at the roots, spritz on PHYTO Phytovolume Actif Volumizer Spray while blow drying. Then create a side part, brush hair into a side ponytail and loosely curl to add waves. Secure with an elastic ponytail holder and put in your hair pins. Mia Beauty has hair stickers in mini silver flowers that you can simply peel and stick on without causing damage.
6. Spray-on hair color stripes at Ohne Titel. To reinforce the architectural theme found in Ohne Titel's Spring 2014 collection, hairstylist Jimmy Paul added cobalt and blush colored lines to the models' slicked-back chignon hairdos. Using white sheets of paper, spray Bumble and Bumble Spraychalk in lines that are thinner in the front of the head and grow thicker as they reach the back of head.
7. Jeweled sandals at Tibi. Breathe new life into your old clogs and platform sandals by adding various sized crystals and studs similar to those we spotted on the shoes at Tibi's Spring 2014 show. We suggest mapping out your jewels on a flat surface before gluing on so that you can get a clear idea of the style you'd like to achieve.
