'Sister Wives': Browns Debate Polygamy At University Panel

Kody Brown and his four wives participated in a panel over plural marriage on the latest episode of "Sister Wives." The panel was at the University of Las Vegas, and the Browns were discussing their lifestyle choice with people who'd had bad experiences with it.

One of those people said that the polygamist lifestyle was filled with "unhappiness" and "poverty," but Robyn took offense to the remark. "If I didn’t believe this anymore, I would leave," she said. "Do not make me a victim, sweetie.”

“The debate, in general, I think was awful," said Christine afterward. She was right in that things did not go well. As Celeb Dirty Laundry's Kristine Francis pointed out, "The two sides of the panel stopped addressing the audience altogether and started to talk / confront each other. Everyone got angry and in the end neither side came to an agreement that they each have a right to the way they live their life."

A university professor told cameras that he thinks the percentages of polygamous families who are actually satisfied in their marriages is at about 30%. He added, though, that the level of satisfaction in monogamous marriages is probably the same.

“Despite the negativity they encountered at the debate, we still think it’s great that the Browns stood up for what they believe in and encouraged people to open their minds to different ways of life," wrote Hollywood Life's Tierney McAfee. The episode certainly proved that polygamy remains a contentious topic with passionate people on both sides of the issue.

The Browns are members of the Apostolic United Brethren Church. While The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints has officially rejected polygamy, the Brown family openly continues with the practice.
