Bryan Fischer Says He 'Loves' Gays While Referring To Homosexuality As 'Perverted' And A 'Disease'

Anti-Gay Pundit Says He 'Loves' Gays While Calling Homosexuality 'Perverted' And A 'Disease'

If the American Family Association 's Bryan Fischer loves gays as much as he proclaimed on his "Focal Point" radio show this week, he certainly has an odd way of expressing it.

Fischer, whose anti-gay declarations make headlines on a near-weekly basis, told listeners that he "wants to see the [gay community] delivered" from "the bondage and the deception and the darkness and the perverseness of that lifestyle," even though he -- along with other members of the right-wing Christian community -- loves gays.

"It just saddens me to see people that are so deceived, and whose lives are being wasted by falling prey to that disease," he said, as Right Wing Watch first reported. "There's a sickness there ... It just breaks your heart to see what this perverted sense of sexuality is doing to them."

The remarks are, of course, in line with Fischer's previous condemnations of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community. "I refer to homosexual marriage as 'sodomy-based marriage,'" he said last month, as Right Wing Watch also first reported. It is rooted in the act of sodomy, which was a felony offense everywhere in the United States of America ... Now you talk about preserving public policies against this behavior, you get tagged as a homophobic bigot."

Earlier this year, he also an unlikely link between the George Zimmerman/Trayvon Martin case and the U.S. Supreme Court's rulings on the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) and Prop 8 in June. He also sprang to the defense of San Antonio Councilwoman Elisa Chan, whose remarks about the gay community sparked controversy in August.

"I would guarantee you 90 percent of the American people, if they would stop and think about what actually happens in homosexual sexual behavior, they would find it disgusting," he said at the time.
