Floyd Mayweather Jr. Apologizes For Oscar De La Hoya Joke On Instagram

Mayweather Apologizes

Floyd Mayweather Jr. has apologized for a recent post on his Instagram account that mocked Oscar De La Hoya's battle with drugs and alcohol. The joke was posted and pulled on Monday, two days after Mayweather dominated one of the stars of De La Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions, Canelo Alvarez, in a WBA/WBC junior middleweight title unification bout. Prior to the fight, De La Hoya announced he had checked in to treatment facility.

The Instagram post that led to the apology featured an image of De La Hoya with the headline "MEANWHILE IN REHAB" and accompanying caption, "OSCAR: I gave Canelo the wrong blueprint I was high," reports the L.A. Times.

After De La Hoya initially announced that he had entered treatment facility , Mayweather wished his former foe well.

"Hopefully he can get better and pull through like a true champion," Mayweather said of De La Hoya, via the Associated Press.
