Bret Baier thanked viewers for their well wishes as his son prepared to undergo heart surgery on Thursday.
Baier's son Paul, now age 6, was born with five congenital heart defects. His operation on Thursday is his third open heart surgery.
Baier told viewers in a video that he is taking time off while Paul undergoes and recovers from the surgery, and said he hopes to be back on-air next week. The Fox News host was with his son at Children's National Medical Center on Wednesday and Thursday. He tweeted:
My son,Paul, just finished his pre-op tests-his open heart surgery is tomorrow AM. He was a champ-here getting X-rays pic.twitter.com/FyucXOpyrB

He updated viewers on Thursday morning, writing:
Thank u for all the good wishes & prayers. Paul is in surgery now-should be 4-5 hrs-getting him to sleep worked well http://t.co/TeEXrftgFT
