Men Have Stylists, Too -- Just Don't Call Them That

How Many Of These Famous Men Wear Makeup?

Thanks to star stylists like Rachel Zoe, celebrities' secret weapons are common knowledge -- for women, that is. We're well aware of the drastic measures actresses like Anne Hathaway and Cameron Diaz take to stay in style, but we know relatively little about how the men of Hollywood keep their looks in check.

Thankfully, Diana Schmidtke is filling in the gaps in our knowledge. In an interview with the New York Times, Schmidtke, a celebrity "groomer," reveals she practices a profession that's more in-demand than ever, styling, buffing and primping men to perfection for their public appearances.

Schmidtke says others in the industry are a little confused by her title (hey, so are we) and she's often asked, "What is that, like dog grooming?" But we can't say we're surprised men are averse to using a traditionally feminine term like stylist.

Historically, guys are shy about the time they spend, well, grooming, but they're doing it just as much, if not more, than their lady friends. Earlier this year, we discovered that British women are catching the men in their lives borrowing an average of $30 worth of beauty products per month, and a recent poll revealed that men spend just as much time getting ready in the morning as women do. Still, Schmidtke has to watch her words, the Times says:

She'll boil down beauty lingo into action words. "Pre-shave oil" may not register with guys, but "if you say it helps the glide of the blade, ding ding ding, they understand what it means," she said.

Among the leading men on Schmidtke's client list: Jon Hamm, George Clooney, Seth MacFarlane, Clint Eastwood, Jimmy Fallon, Viggo Mortensen and Chris Hemsworth. While those are only the names listed in one article, we're sure dozens more dudes elevate their appearances with a groomer's help. Why do you think guys are so shy about paying extra attention to their appearance?

Now, let's think of a euphemism for "makeup":
