Michele Bachmann: Obama's 'Used To Being George III'

For the second time this week, a prominent Republican dinged President Barack Obama as a leader reminiscent of a monarch.

Appearing on Thursday's edition of CNN's "Crossfire," Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) likened Obama to a British figure who was not always held in the greatest light. Host S.E. Cupp asked Bachmann if Obama has been a willing partner on fiscal fights with Congress.

"No, he really hasn't because he's been used to being George III," Bachmann said. "He lays down the law and that's the way it is."

According to the History Channel, George III was a driving force behind Americans' framing of the Declaration of Independence. He ruled for 59 years (1760-1819) through the Revolutionary War, which saw Britain lose the American colonies.

Bachmann's comments come days after former House Speaker and current Crossfire host Newt Gingrich hurled similar words at Obama for not negotiating with Republicans over the debt limit.

“This idea that suddenly ‘Barack the First’ announces to us, as the king, what he’s going to do ... well that’s not how the Constitution works,” Gingrich said in an interview for Washington Post TV’s “In Play."
