Maryland made its stamp on last night's 2013 Emmy Awards in more ways than one. While locally filmed TV shows "VEEP" and "House of Cards" came away with multiple awards, there were also some fashionable winners on the red carpet.
Celebrities with ties to the state were among some of the best dressed at the event, while Annapolis native and "Project Runway" winner Christian Siriano was once again the designer of choice for a certain "Mad Men" actress.
Emmy winner Julia Louis-Dreyfus ("VEEP") looked stunning in a strapless, column gown by Monique Lhuillier. The metallic horizontal beading that paneled throughout the garment was particularly lovely. She completed the look with a flashy sparkling clutch.
When asked by E! reporter Giuliana Rancic about her simple jewelry, Louis-Dreyfus replied: "Because I think the beading is enough."
Speaking of Rancic, the University of Maryland graduate wore a gorgeous strapless blue Tadashi Shoji gown. The fit and flare gown was adorned with a sparkling rhinestone pattern throughout, which created a whimsical effect.
Rancic's accessories were also noteworthy. She gave a shout out to CoverGirl, the cosmetics company based in Hunt Valley, for her "Almost Naked" nail polish color. Rancic revealed that she wore the neutral color so that it could got with either black or the blue dress she wore yesterday.
"I'm loving it," she gushed to Ryan Seacrest from the red carpet.
The closeup of her nail polish also gave Rancic the opportunity to show off her $1 million 18-karat diamond ring by Forevermark. She later tweeted a picture of the ring with the hashtag #wishicouldkeep.
Despite Rancic's flashy ring, minimal jewelry was among the trends on the red carpet, along with black lace, metallic colors, cut outs, sheer paneling and shades of white, pink, red and blue.
Christina Hendricks ("Mad Men") continued her support for Siriano, wearing a black lace gown by the designer. This year's form-fitting number showed off all her legendary curves. I wasn't a huge fan of the lace sleeves, or the tiered fabric around the hips, but at least they were on trend.
Two months after giving birth, Anna Chlumsky ("VEEP") looked fantastic in an emerald satin gown by Badgley Mischka. The gown featured a faux peplum and a patterned fabric block along the sides.
Sufe Bradshaw ("VEEP") wore a sparkling navy blue gown by David Meister. The simple gown was elegant. The small Oroton clutch completed the look.
Julie Bowen ("Modern Family") wore a pink Zac Posen gown with a dramatic ruffled bottom and sleeves. Unfortunately, the gown appeared to swallow up the Baltimore native. And the sleeves weren't particularly spectacular.
The women from "House of Cards" also made a red carpet splash.
Kate Mara wore a stark white gown by designer J. Mendel, who was the talk of New York Fashion Week with a stunning collection. The gown featured a sheer panel top, and a high slit in the skirt. While I wasn't a fan of the dress, which looked wrinkled, Vogue named Mara to its 10 best-dressed list for last night's awards show.
Constance Zimmer ("House of Cards") wore a black and gold brocade gown by Chagoury, featuring a sheer top. .
Robin Wright ("House of Cards") wore a Ralph Lauren cap sleeve black gown with a geometric diagonal sheer panels along the front.
Sandrine Holt "House of Cards" wore a white gown by Honor. The gown featured a sheer neckline and straight pleated skirt.
