'American Horror Story: Coven' Opening Credits Released Early (VIDEO)

WATCH: 'AHS: Coven' Opening Credits May Give You Nightmares

Creator Ryan Murphy has released the opening credits for "American Horror Story: Coven" ahead of the show's Oct. 9 premiere, and they're every bit as creepy as the main titles for the previous two seasons.

Filled with occult imagery and ominous glimpses of animals and bleeding body parts, the opening could very well give you nightmares -- but we figure that's just Murphy's way of preparing us for the scares in store when the show makes its debut in two weeks.

"American Horror Story: Coven" tells the secret history of witches and witchcraft in America. Over 300 years have passed since the turbulent days of the Salem witch trials and those who managed to escape are now facing extinction. Mysterious attacks have been escalating against their kind and young girls are being sent away to a special school in New Orleans to learn how to protect themselves. Wrapped up in the turmoil is new arrival, Zoe (Taissa Farmiga), who is harboring a terrifying secret of her own. Alarmed by the recent aggression, Fiona (Jessica Lange), the long-absent Supreme, sweeps back into town, determined to protect the Coven and hell-bent on decimating anyone who gets in her way.

Sarah Paulson, who plays Lange's daughter this season, recently described the relationship between their characters: "This year it's a true mother-daughter relationship, in that it's quite complicated. It's not one of those kumbaya situations. Not a lot of hugging on this show," she told HuffPost TV's Mo Ryan.

"American Horror Story: Coven" premieres Wednesday, Oct. 9 at 10 p.m. on FX.
