Roosevelt High School Shooting In Chicago Leaves Student Injured After Attempted Robbery

Student Shot Outside High School In Attempted Robbery

A 15-year-old boy was shot outside his high school during an attempted robbery on Chicago's Northwest Side Wednesday afternoon, according to police.

The victim is a student at Roosevelt High School in Albany Park, located across the street from the scene of the shooting. The Tribune reports he was at a bus stop in the 4700 block of North Kimball Avenue when two "juveniles" shot him during an attempted robbery around 2:25 p.m., according to police, roughly half an hour after school lets out at Roosevelt.

A police spokesman told HuffPost that, after the chase, a struggle ensued between the gunman and the victim and the gun discharged.

The boy sustained a "minor" gunshot wound to the leg, the Sun-Times reports, and was taken to a nearby hospital in good condition.

The ages of the robbers, who are not Roosevelt students, have not been released. They were arrested and questioned by police; charges are now pending. A gun was also recovered at the scene.

Neighbor John Garcia told DNAinfo Chicago he follows gun violence incidents around the city. "Every time I see it on the news, it's the South Side. You turn a blind eye, even though you shouldn't because we're all one city. It's scary now."

On the other side of the city, a student was arrested for bringing a gun to the prestigious Urban Prep Academy.
