She's perhaps one of the most iconic women in American history. But how much do you actually know about Rosie the Riveter?

Rosie is actually a fictional character, modeled after some six million women who signed up for traditionally "male" jobs during World War II. She was first introduced to the public in a 1943 song -- the classic image came later.
