AuraYoga In West Hollywood Combines Ambient Lighting With Hot Yoga (PHOTOS)

For Those Who Want To Practice Yoga In A More Flattering Light

AuraCycle, the folks behind the colorfully-lit spin classes on West Third Street, are branching out into yoga with the recent opening of AuraYoga in West Hollywood.

No, it's not disco yoga (although that exists). Instead, think of the ambient lighting as more of a calming mood-setter for certain chakras and their associated color. The studio is also gently heated.

Jake Ferree, who has taught yoga classes around Los Angeles for the past seven years, designed the classes and is one of the main teachers at the studio. He explained to HuffPost that, because the seven chakras all have their own colors, he saw an opportunity to incorporate another physical sense besides touch into his yoga practice.

"We want the program to take you on a journey and go deeper than just the practice alone, said Ferree. "We're taking it to a different level, just to get all the senses involved in the practice."

For instance, at a class last week that focused on opening up the sacral chakra, the studio was bathed in an orange glow as students performed bridge and pigeon poses. And because the sacral chakra is linked to a body's fluids, Ferree also encouraged the class to mentally picture water and shed a few tears, if needed.

To celebrate the opening, anyone who wants to try the classes will receive two weeks for free (just mention "two weeks free"). After that, classes start at $22, and a $110 monthly membership gets you an unlimited pass. Parking is, crucially, free at Sunset Plaza.
