'DWTS': Surprise Frontrunner Emerges Despite Injury, Robbery

There have been quite a few injuries early this season on "Dancing With the Stars," but injury was only one of the problems actor Brant Daugherty had to deal with this week. The "Pretty Little Liars" star had sprained his foot and had to wear a boot, which impeded rehearsals. On top of that, after last week's episode, Brant was robbed at gunpoint. The thief took his bag, which had Brant's dance shoes in it.

Despite everything he'd gone through in the past week, Brant still managed to pull out a stellar performance. And he did it in one of the most challenging styles: the quickstep. In fact, Brant earned 27 points, which was the highest score of the night.

He got Buddy TV's John Kubicek in his corner. "For once these two aren't relying purely on sex appeal," he said of Brant and his professional partner Peta Murgatroyd. "Brant has a pleasant charisma as well. Who knew he could be more than just eye candy? The judges are all won over just as I am, even moreso because he was hurt ... The top tier of talent this season is getting crowded.

Entertainment Weekly's Annie Barrett was hoping the thief was watching. "What would really have been great is if the thief ... had seen tonight's quickstep, thought, ‘I was wrong. This guy needs the proper footwear to continue on in Week 4,’ and sheepishly darted through the ballroom to drop off the Latin shoes he'd stolen from Brant," she wrote. "But maybe he thought he'd get picked up by the Lift Police on his way past the judges' table.”

While that seems pretty unlikely, what does seem likely is that Brant Daugherty is going to stick around for awhile on "Dancing With the Stars." The competition is on every Monday at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
