'Mindy Project' Adds Adam Pally, But It's No Happy Ending For Mindy

Casey came back from Haiti on the latest episode of "The Mindy Project," but it wasn't the happy homecoming Mindy was expecting. Casey shocked her -- and his congregation -- when he announced he wanted to give up being a pastor to become a DJ.

But then, after his first DJ gig, he changed his mind again. He said that while he was working, he noticed problems with the fire exits. This made him quickly decide that his new life's passion is to be an event planner. He wanted Mindy to drop everything and move to Texas with him so he could pursue this new dream. Mindy wondered, how long would this one last?

“Sometimes I feel like, when God is telling you to change everything, there’s a little part of you that’s talking, too," Mindy told him. She couldn't just follow him around from whim to whim. And so she returned his ring. It was a rather abrupt and convenient way to get Mindy single again, having her boyfriend suffer a kind of weird midlife crisis.

Chris O'Hara of TV Fanatic said that this was inevitable. "I've enjoyed Mindy's relationship with Casey, but I don't think anyone expected it to last," he wrote. "Mindy is back on the market, which should stoke the sexual tension between her and Danny, while also allowing for some potentially awkward date scenes as she wades back out into the sea of singles.”

As E! Online's Tierney Bricker pointed out, though, Mindy's next beau could be close to home, as in work. "It's hard to be too upset over their split when 'Happy Ending's' Adam Pally made his debut as the office's new OB/GYN Peter Prentiss," she wrote. "He's here. He's fratty (But he went to Dartmouth, so it's totally OK). He's actually good at his job.”

Of course, he also suggested that Mindy was a plus-size model and she said he'd never work there. Never mind that he was hired by Jeremy while Danny and Mindy were away, it's going to take a while for Mindy to get past his dismissal of her as a possible doctor at the practice.

Adam Pally is here to stay on "The Mindy Project," Tuesdays at 9:30 p.m. ET on Fox.
