Brooke Shields Talks Divorce From Andre Agassi

Brooke Shields Reveals Why She Divorced Andre Agassi

Brooke Shields revealed new details about her divorce from tennis player Andre Agassi while co-hosting "The Today Show" Thursday morning.

During a segment with celebrity divorce lawyer Laura Wasser, Shields gave some insight into her split.

"I am divorced," she said. "And mine was fairly quick, and relatively easy, but it’s a very interesting thing because he did say to me 'Be happy that we don’t have children or I would not have made this easy for you.' And therein lies why I’m not there anymore."

Shields and Agassi married in May 1997 and divorced just two years later in April 1999. At the time, the couple claimed to be on good terms, and issued a joint statement that declared they had "the utmost love and respect for one another."

But when Agassi wrote an autobiography in 2009, he had less than loving things to say about his ex-wife.

"I have a thought no man should have on his wedding day... I wish I had a decoy groom to take my place," he wrote.

Shields is now married to Chris Henchy, with whom she has two children. Agassi is remarried as well, to tennis player Steffi Graf. He and Graf have two children together.
