"The Blacklist" is about to get even twistier -- NBC has picked up its freshman James Spader-led drama for a full first season of 22 episodes.
“The Blacklist” stars Emmy Award winner James Spader as Raymond "Red" Reddington, one of the FBI's most wanted criminals who mysteriously turned himself in and brought a list of his fellow fugitive criminals with him. But there's a catch (there's always a catch): He'll only work with a new recruit, a profiler named Elizabeth Keen (Megan Boone).
Red's intentions are never what they seem, and as Spader pointed out to HuffPost TV, the only thing you can really believe about Red is that you can't believe anything he says.
"He amused me," Spader said. "He has such a strange and enigmatic life, and I liked the fact that the show could surprise you and be sort of thrilling, and yet, at the same time, have a sense of humor and irreverence."
We named "The Blacklist" one of the best new dramas of the season, and in "The Blacklist's" first two weeks on the air, the show averaged a 3.6 rating and about 12 million viewers, making it the number one new drama on any of the networks so far.
“The many layers of Red Reddington and his mysterious reasons for getting into bed with the FBI seem to be fascinating to fans of this show,” said NBC Entertainment President Jennifer Salke. “With great talent like James Spader and Megan Boone on board, as well our stellar executive producers and the whole cast and crew, we believe this outstanding series will continue to make NBC a big destination on Monday nights.”
