Khadijah James, Wisconsin Teen, Jailed For Alleged Anti-Gay Hate Crime Against Local Couple

Did This Wisconsin Teen Target Her Neighbors' Home Because They Were Gay?

A Wisconsin teen has been jailed after allegedly attacking a gay couple in her neighborhood with homophobic slurs and vandalizing their Racine home.

Fox 6 News cites a criminal complaint which accused 17-year-old Khadijah James of heckling the two male victims for a week with anti-gay epithets before a heated incident in which she picked up an unidentified object and threw it at their home, shattering a window.

"They say Khadijah was using slurs against them and shouting slurs from across the street as they were waiting at the bus stop and walking past their house,” Jessie Metoyer of the Racine Police Department told the news channel. Eventually the harassment escalated to violence when the couple encountered James in the alley behind their home: “One got an uneasy feeling and started watching Ms. James and he saw her pick up some items and throw them at their house and the window shattered."

According to The Journal Times, James -- who apparently has a prior criminal record -- was slapped with two hate crime-related charges: criminal damage to property and disorderly conduct.
