The Common Thread Between Awful 'Homeland' And 'Dexter' Storylines Revealed

Showtime's New Showkiller?

"Homeland" fans are feeling a little creepy after watching the sexual adventures of Dana Brody in the show's "Uh ... Oo .. Aw" episode. Damian Lewis did not like watching that scene, and neither did we.

Nicholas Brody's daughter's struggle to deal with her father's double-life has been a very central part of "Homeland's" third season. In only two episodes, we've learned that Dana (Morgan Saylor) tried to commit suicide, was living in a mental health treatment facility and has been sexting (and sexing) with her new boyfriend Leo (Sam Underwood). The storyline has many "Homeland" fans searching for answers and wondering how the Emmy-winning CIA drama could dedicate so much screen time to a superfluous and cringe-worthy plotline.

Well, all you have to do is look back on how Showtime handled the final season of "Dexter," and it becomes a lot less shocking. Especially considering ... wait, where have we seen Dana's boyfriend before?

Oh yeah! He also played Zach Hamilton in the misguided and completely unnecessary "Dexter gets a protege" final season storyline.

It's not Sam Underwood's fault, people. He's just a young actor trying to make it who was probably pumped to get cast in not one but two hit Showtime shows. It's just too bad that both characters are awful. But let's not make him the bad guy here.

Oh, what's that you say? He was also in two episodes of the short-lived Anthony Edwards time-traveling, Nazi-themed ABC drama "Zero Hour"? Well that settles it. He just might be a showkiller-in-training. Dexter Morgan would be so proud.
